AN INSIGHT INTO SECTORAL MBA PROGRAMS

sectoral mba

There are ,broadly speaking, two types of MBA programs - Regular MBA and Sectoral MBA.

A regular MBA program empowers a student with knowledge which can be applied in any sector/ industry of one’s choice. The students graduating from these programs secure jobs in different domains/industries. On the other hand, a sectoral MBA's syllabus is designed keeping in mind specific requirements of 1-2 sectors/industries. Therefore the placement for students in these programs happens in those industries alone.

Who should opt for sectoral MBA program?
A student who has clarity about what kind of job/role/industry he/she would like to opt for should look for a sectoral MBA program. Once you opt for these programs, usually you end up working in the same sector for rest of your professional career ( though there are a few exceptions to this ).

In terms of job opportunities few sectoral programs offer job opportunities in multiple industries ( like regular MBA program ), MBA in international business is one such program.

It is always recommended to pursue these kind of programs from select B-schools, as the lower rung B-schools which offer these programs will not be able to offer good education and placement opportunities.

Who should opt for a regular MBA program?
Any one who is not sure of which industry/ domain they would like to work in or any one who wishes to work in multiple industries during course of their professional career must opt for a regular MBA program.

The following is a list of some B-schools offering sectoral programs

MBA ( International Business )
The MBA (International Business) is designed for developing skilled managers by equipping them with the nuances of general management along with special focus given towards international business. The academic curriculum is designed so as to incorporate a professional approach and sensitivity to international business environment. The focus is on developing a capable workforce within the country who has a complete understanding of the ever changing international scenarios so that they can weigh and analyze the impact of those changes in domestic market. Most of the subjects covered in the curriculum include a touch of international management as per the needs of the global economy.
